Ex­hi­bi­ti­on at the f2 Photo Fes­ti­val Dort­mund

A se­ries com­bi­ning new pho­to­graphs with ar­chi­val ma­te­ri­al from the years 2023 to 2025. C-prints and cya­no­types, va­rious for­mats.

It’s get­ting tight – Pho­to­gra­phic Notes from the Space Age ex­plo­res the re­la­ti­on­ship bet­ween chaos and order in outer space. At a time when the race for sa­tel­li­tes and do­mi­nance in space has long begun – often wi­thout re­gard for eco­lo­gi­cal or ethi­cal con­se­quences – the work turns its gaze to­ward the in­cre­a­sing pol­lu­ti­on of Ear­th’s orbit and its sym­bo­lic di­men­si­on.

Sa­tel­li­tes have be­co­me in­dis­pensa­ble to our eve­r­y­day lives – enab­ling na­vi­ga­ti­on, com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on, wea­ther fo­re­cas­ting, and glo­bal in­ter­connec­ted­ness. Our gro­wing de­pen­dence on them makes their pre­sence in space both es­sen­ti­al and thre­a­te­ning.

The GPS coor­di­na­tes of the shoo­ting lo­ca­ti­ons point to this connec­ti­on: they mark our earth­ly po­si­ti­on wi­thin the glo­bal sys­tem – and cre­a­te a bridge bet­ween Earth and orbit.

It’s get­ting tight is a vi­su­al re­flec­ti­on on the ten­si­on bet­ween con­trol and loss of con­trol, pro­gress and re­spon­si­bi­li­ty – and on the ques­ti­on of how we, as hu­ma­ni­ty, want to un­der­stand and shape our place in the uni­ver­se.
